Lightning strikes have killed 20 people across eight districts of the eastern Indian state of Bihar in just 24 hours.

Image
More thunderstorm with lightning has been forecast in northern parts of the state for Wednesday and Thursday. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked people to closely follow the advice by the state’s disaster management authority. Hundreds die in India every year in lightning incidents during monsoon rains. One of the reasons cited for the high number of deaths is the large number of people working outdoors in India compared to other parts of the world, which makes them more vulnerable. On Tuesday, Mr Kumar announced a compensation of 400,00 rupees ($5,008; £4,154) for the families of each of the deceased. The chief minister had held a meeting last week and asked state officials to install lightning arresters at all government buildings, including schools and hospitals, The Times of India newspaper reported. The geographical position of the state makes it particularly susceptible to frequent lightning strikes during the monsoons, the report said. In February this year, the BBC rep...

The Secret behind Mama IVY and Mama dollar beef

Image
CJ Biggerman decided to honour his mother in a unique and imaginative way on Sunday, May 8. So he created a rhythm for her, and in the song Big Momma, she rapped about all the things she had accomplished as a mother while giving advise to some young girls. A few months later, some Nigerians believed that Ghana could not challenge itself to show such inventiveness, so they asked their mothers to respond to Big Ivy. Internet people were interested by Nigeria’s Mummy Dolarz’s response after Ghana’s Big Ivy responded. Mama Ivy proclaimed herself the Queen of Rap and felt sorry for Nigerians for choosing Mummy Dolarz to compete against her rather than a rapper like M.I. who could endure a lyrical conflict. Mummy Dolarz, however, wants to prove that she can compete in the rap game head-to-head with the Big Ivy. The Nigerian arrived this time bearing a throne and a crown to demonstrate her authority as queen.

Some Qwikloan customers who haven’t paid are waiting for their SIM to be blocked – Sam George

Image
Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament, Samuel Nartey George, has said that the decision to block unregistered SIM cards in Ghana will discourage investors from injecting capital into the telecom space in Ghana. He said some Qwikloan customers who are yet to settle their debt have decided not to pay and are waiting for their SIM to be blocked. If any businessman observes this situation, that person is likely to shy away from investing in the sector because one day, due to government policy, he may lose all his capital investments, he said. Speaking on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday July 30, Sam George said “You have Qwikloan customers who have taken facilities and people are holding back and not wanting to pay, they are saying, okay, if you want to deactivate my SIM, let’s deactivate it.  “It is a disincentive for you to attract investor into the tech space. Don’t forget that this quick loan has created a space for a new cadre of small scale businesses, people who take ¢50...

Any vegetable can do, but spinach, kale, and collard greens are particularly tasty.
